Chennai Corporation to commission affordable dormitories in Chennai Central, Egmore and Broadway

The Chennai Corporation has started identifying locations near Central and Egmore railway stations as well as the Broadway and Koyambedu bus terminus for commissioning affordable dormitories that offer services for passengers who submit a copy of their tickets.
Screening of tickets is expected to prevent misuse of the facilities that will house 10,000 passengers per day for a nominal daily fee that is likely to be around Rs. 10 per passenger. The final decision will be taken by the State government shortly.
Passengers can call a helpline, to be set up the Corporation, the previous day to register their name and address.
Also, in a few months, any visitor to the city will require less than Rs. 20 per day for a wholesome, comfortable stay with nutritious food made available at the Amma canteens. Offers of idli at Re.1, chapatti at Rs. 3 or curd rice at Rs. 3 are likely to attract many passengers.
