Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to flag off the new buses today

The Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation will add more than 500 buses to its fleet. Chief minister J Jayalalithaa will flag off the new buses at the secretariat at around noon on Thursday. Metropolitan Transport Corporation would get around 90 new buses.The MTC has around 3,750 buses now and is expected to increase its fleet strength by 350, making use of the funds from Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Of this, 250 will be regular buses and 100 will be air-conditioned ones.
The State Transport Corporation, with eight divisions, has more than 20,000 buses.
