Commencement of Barricade Work at Kottur Bridge

At the instance when the transportation officials in San Francisco, US are in the view of the viability of a $76 million fence on top of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Chennai corporation officials also commenced their work on a barrier for the Kottur Bridge, which is termed as Suicide Spot.
After the allotment of 1.2 Crores from TN government, Chennai Corporations starts the barricade work in a full sway.
The civic body has espoused international designs on building the barrier which will put a stop to high occurrences of suicides on bridges.
Plan of Barricade:
A meter stretched tangible wall will be placed and above which there will be one another meter-long of metal grills that bend inwards, thus no one can clamber it, said an official of the bridges department of the corporation.
The barrier will extend across 150m and arise on both sides of the Kottur Bridge. The footpath renovation will be carried out so as to place horizontal efficacy pipes subversive so that people do not have traction.
The barricade work will be concluded in six months. This Kottur Bridge bang the caption as ‘Suicide Spot’ on 20 December, 2012, when Mahadevan, Carnatic vocalist Nithyasree`s husband took a sink from here.
If one bridge is blockaded, people be inclined to move on to the next bridge, hence we will work on hoisting rampart walls at other bridges, says corporation officials.
