CMDA has announced that the sudden dramatic inspection (as a follow-up after the collapse of the multi-storeyed building in Moulivakkam near Porur) to check on any deviations from the rules of construction on multi-storeyed buildings in Chennai & its suburbs will continue for a month.

The collapse of the multi-storeyed building in Moulivakkam was really sensational. Following this, Tamil Nadu government immediately ordered thorough inspection of all multi-storeyed buildings which are newly built or 1-year-old and those under construction to check that there are no flouting of construction rules and take immediate action if any transgression is found.

Accordingly, inspection of buildings in Chennai as well as the suburbs likes Thiruavallur and Kanchipuram commenced on Thursday.

CMDA officials reported after 2 days’ of inspection:

As the constructions are multi-storeyed, considerable time is required for thorough checking. So, the number of buildings inspected over the last 2 days is rather less. Because of the higher time factor involved for the check, inspection activities may go on for a month.

If any transgression of construction rules is observed, a report will be initially submitted to the government and then action on the offenders will be initiated.
