Mobile Cancer Screening Bus to screen 6000 annually for cancer

Posted on: 10/Jul/2014 11:40:45 AM
Mobile Cancer Screening Bus was launched on Wednesday by Penn Nalam, an unit of the city-based Sri Dhanvantri Trust in order to encourage more women to screen themselves for breast and cervical cancer. It would be stationed in Kancheepuram and used to screen around 6,000 patients a year for early signs of cancer in the district.

Although there is awareness on breast and cervical cancer, it is often difficult to make women come in for screening.

On the bus, women over 30 years of age will be screened for cervical cancer and women over 40 will be screened for breast cancer. After Kancheepuram, the model will be replicated in other districts as well, Radhika Santhanakrishnan, founder of Penn Nalam, said at the inauguration of the bus. The mobile unit was inaugurated by director (HR) of ONGC K.S. Jamestin and consul (Economic) and chair of direct aid program, Australian consulate general Martin Landauer.
