Thanjavur to get airport

The civil aviation ministry is planning to build an airport in Thanjavur as part of a plan to develop 50 small airports across India.
Minister of state for civil aviation G M Siddeshwara told the Lok Sabha on Monday that sites have been indentified for the project. Thanjavur has an airstrip used by the Indian Air Force. The airstrip, which was built during World War II, was taken over by the Airports Authority of India before the IAF took over in 1990.
