DG Vaishnava College, Chennai has launched an ‘arbhori’ horticulture
project called ‘Harivanam’ which means ‘Project Green’ on its campus. This is
an initiative to revive ancient medicinal and healing techniques and create a
healthy environment.
The college has designed two day workshop to train representatives of
the other colleges on this subject. The objective of the workshop is to
familiarize the participants with the modus operandi of the initiative. Research findings on various plants with
medicinal and healing properties and the finding would be shared with the
participants of the workshop.
The benefits of growing medicinal plants were explained. Some of the
benefits like sitting under the branches of Panchavati Vanam would purify the
mind and some trees have aroma therapeutic values, which, for example can be
planted near the class rooms.
The college is also planning to offer certificate course to the students
on this.
