Security arrangements reviewed on Arakkonam-Tiruttani route

In the backdrop of the robbery that took place in an EMU train in Tiruttani – Arakkonam section o­n 19.08.2014, the present security arrangements have been reviewed and some concrete measures taken to avert recurrence of such incidents.

All the night EMU trains between Arakkonam – Tiruttani are provided with RPF escort from the night of 20.08.2014.

A strength consisting of 2 or 3 RPF staff is permanently posted at Tiruttani round the clock, directing them to watch the movements of suspected persons and those travelling by the ladies coaches of EMU trains.

A special team under o­ne Sub-Inspector/RPF with staff is directd to move in the section by surprise at frequent intervals o­n various trains to watch the movements of suspected persons as well as to apprehend unauthorized persons from trains and stations.

Additional manpower has been mobilized from other RPF statons and drafted to Arakkonam section in an attempt to beef up security to passengers in this section.

Assisstant Security Commissioner, RPF, Arakkonam has been directed to camp at Arakkonam to oversee the security arrangements made for trains and stations in Arakkonam – Tiruttani section.

All the RPF staff o­n platform / station duty and train escort duty have been properly directed and tasked to attend o­n all the EMU trains, especially ladies coaches.

A sound alert has been issued to all incharges of RPF posts and outposts, directing them to conduct awareness campaigns to create a sense of security among the travelling public during train journeys.

Decoy checks are also being organized.

Women passengers are advised to avoid travelling in isolated coaches, particularly during night times, as a preventive measure against such crimes, owing to the railway’s inability to provide escort to all the ladies coaches.

in an attempt to keep the railway stations and trains free from the activities of unsocial elements, regular / special drives in trains and stations are conducted by RPF / Chennai Division all over the division daily.  Defaulters are apprehended and prosecuted under relevant sections of Railway Act.
 
During the drives, 6976 unauthorized vendors, 9743 persons who caused nuisance to passengers, 657 persons s who were restricting entry of passengers into trains, 412 male persons travelling in ladies compartments and 166 persons who defaced trains and stations by pasting notices / bills without due permission were apprehended and prosecuted.A total fine amount Rs.4.48 lakhs was realized from them from January to July, 2014.
