UGC Explanation: Hindi is not compulsory!

University Grants Commission has decided to withdraw the circular with instructions to teach Hindi as a primary language in the entire country.
The Head of the UGC has declared that a statement to this effect will be issued shortly.
The circular instructing that Hindi should be taught as the language apart from English did not have any ulterior motives. He insisted that it the prerogative of the university on the syllabus and the method of teaching.
The circular mentioned that Hindi should be given equal accordance with English as the primary language. Political parties such as DMK, PMK, and MDMK protested strongly on this. .TN Chief Minister Jayalalithaa also had written strongly on this issue to the prime minister.
