Healthy Food Recipes : Chayote Koottu (Chow Chow Koottu)

Ingredients:

·         Chayote – 500 gm / 2 Nos

·         Green gram – 100gm

·         Onion – 3 Nos

·         Tomato – 2 Nos

·         Mustard – ½ spoon

·         Fennel seeds – ½ spoon

·         Oil – 5 spoons

·         Salt – as required

·         Turmeric powder – ½ spoon

·        Sambar powder (containing chilli powder and coriander powder) – 1 spoon

·         Garlic – 8 cloves

Method:

1.       Peel off the skin from chayote and chop it into fine pieces


 

2.   Place a cooker and heat oil. Add mustard, fennel seeds, chopped garlic, onions and tomatoes one followed by the other. Sautι them all.


3.      Add chopped chayote

4.      Add green gram which is kept soaked in water for half an hour

5.   Add turmeric powder, sambar powder (containing chilli powder and coriander powder), and salt as required. Add water as required and close the cooker. Let it get cooked for three whistles

6.      Once it’s done, wait until the pressure subsides. Open the lid of cooker and add fresh curry leaves and coriander leaves


7.      This dish is suitable for rice, chapathi and tiffin items like dhosai
