Police releases New Year celebrations guidelines

Chennai City Police are gearing up to ensure that the planned events remain accident free as the New Year celebrations are round the corner. They have issued to hotels and resorts a host of instructions, including providing guests with cab services so that they don`t drive when drunk.
On Friday, additional commissioners S Abash Kumar and P Thamaraikannan convened a meeting at the commissioner`s office which was attended by representatives of more than 80 organizations.
Police said hotels organising events to ring in the New Year should obtain permission under the Madras City Police Act. Parties can commence at 6pm on December 31 but should wind up by 1am. The organizers should list out the specials events planned and inform the deputy commissioner of police concerned programmes events. Those wanting to erect a stage should obtain a structural stability certificate. They should also install surveillance cameras at vantage points. No temporary structures or stage should be put up over swimming pools.
