The Railway Safety Commissioner is scheduled to inspect the Chennai Metro Project train tracks.
The Chennai Metro Rail Project officials informed that the trains will start operating by March as scheduled after this inspection.
As per the schedule, in the 1st phase, the section between Koyambedu & Alandur will begin operations for public service.
An official; informed that the work in this section covering 7 stations is almost complete. Track-laying was completed last year itself.
The automatic signalling system in this section is linked to the control centre. The Metro trains can be operated from the control centre. Tests are being carried out to ensure this facility.
Trains will run at 40 km per hour. However, they were operated at 80 to 90 km per hour during the test-runs. 17 trains have been used for these test-runs.
The pending work in Koyambedu-Alandur section will all be completed by end January.
The Railway Safety Commissioner from Bangalore will be visiting Chennai for inspecting the tracks and trains and other safety measures and certify.
After this certification, the trains will commence service for the public as planned during March.
