Commissioner of Railway Safety, Bangalore will make his final inspection to clear the operation of Chennai Metro rail.
This inspection will take place between Koyambedu- St Thomas Mount stretches which is about 10 kilometers.
The elevated track was constructed between Koyambedu and Alandur. The stations in this 10 kms stretch are Koyambedu, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar, Ekkatuthangal and Alandur. Electric connections and signal were installed and trial run of the rail coaches was also conducted. Work connected with installing scanners and automatic vending machines were over.
Now final works connected with the automated control room is underway. All these works will be completed by end of March.
Before operating the metro rail, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Bangalore has to give his clearance. He is coming with his team next week to inspect. The inspection will take four days. After this, it is expected that permission will be granted to operate the metro rail.
76 kms of new stretch and stations
Chennai Metro Rail is now extending its operations. Three pathways were selected for operation of metro rail. The pathways are about 76 kilometers. These include Madhavaram to Lighthouse (17 km), Koyambedu to Injambakkam (27 km) and Madhavaram to Perumbakkam (32 km).
Metro Rail has given a report to Central and State Governments about the station that will come up in these corridors.
