Chennai Division of Southern Railway celebrated the 60th Railway Week

The Chennai Division of Southern Railway celebrated the 60th Railway Week recently. During the celebrations, Shri. Anupam Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager of Chennai Division, highlighted the activities carried out by Chennai Division last year.  He presented cash awards and merit certificates to 673 individuals and 51 Groups for their meritorious service. 

During the financial year 2014-15, total earnings of the Division increased by 6.7%.  The earnings during 2014-15 is Rs.3,411/- crores as against Rs.3,197/- crores during 2013-14.

Puncuality of Mail/Express trains have improved to 95%.

On the safety front, 8 unmanned level crossings have been eliminated by manning/construction of subway/closure etc.

As announced in the Railway Budget 2014-15, this division has introduced 6 weekly express services and 1 bi-weekly express service.  In addition, cross-sectoral services from Velacherry to Ponneri/Sullurpeta and Avadi/Tiruttani have been provided duly extending the services running between Chennai Beach and Velachery. This includes re-introduction of MEMU services between Chennai Central – Tirupati.

The Divisional Railway Manager stated that the job is extremely challenging and deeply satisfying while expressing his confidence that the railwaymen with their combined efforts shall overcome all obstacles and achieve all round improvement.   Smt. Bharti Sharma, distributed the awards to the meritorious railwaymen.
