Passengers will not be able to stand for long hours in metro rail stations. they can make use of the metro service just for one hour from the minute you take the ticket. After one hour, you will be fined extra up to Rs 100. For every extra hour spent after the allowed time period of one hour, an amount of Rs 10 will be charged as fine.

However, most commuters do not know these rules and roam inside the station. They are not allowed to stand in the platform for long hours. If a person misses a metro train, he can wait for just ten more minutes and board the following one. If a person fails to follow these and stands for long hours, the CCTV camera will point you out. Information about the passengers will be passed on from the control room to the information centre and the respective passenger will be immediately sent out.

Commuters, unaware of the rules, make mistakes in metro rail stations. They get tickets and travel to and fro the same place which is not accepted as per metro rules. These tokens are valid for just one travel. They need to handover the token back at the destined station. But this is not followed by few passengers. Metro railway officials have requested to avoid such mistakes. The officials further add that when a passenger gets a token for Rs 40 and travels from Koyambedu to Alandur, he should get out of the station at Alandur after handing over the token. However, few passengers travel back to Koyambedu with the same token. A token once used should not be used again. If done so, the passenger will be fined. So far, hundreds of passengers have paid the fine.
