Necessary documents for the safety check are sent to the commissioner at Bangalore. Inspections for the same went on yesterday.
This safety check involved test run between St Thomas Mount and Alandur which covers 1.5 km on the above ground metro railway station.
The railway tracks, signals, railway stations, basic facilities for passengers, etc were inspected during this inspection. The inspection report will be sent to the railway department and central government. Union Urban Development Ministry will then send a confirmation about initiating the metro rail service between St. Thomas Mount and Alandur after going through the report. Following this approval, the metro rail service will be started in September this year.
When metro rail service is extended till St. Thomas mount, more people are likely to use the service. Those who travel in the Tambaram-Beach train will choose to get down at St. Thomas Mount and take metro service.
