In addition to training the guards of Chennai Metro Rail Ltd for making sabotage checks, they are also getting sensitized to check the commuters without affecting their sentiments. This move is practiced following a recent incident in which a Sikh man was asked to remove his turban at the Vadapalani metro station.
The training is given by security officers of Chennai Metro Rail backed by specialists of TN police. There are battalion of Tamil Nadu police with the CMRL. and 175 private security personnel are also functioning for the CMRL to protect metro stations from Koyambedu to Alandur, the first stretch that got operational a few months ago.
Commando training is being given to TSP men and training in frisking without offending the commuters is given to private guards. This makes use of gadgets that the guards are not familiar with.
According to CMRL sources, they are also given focused instructions on how to act at various situations. The turban incident happened during the first week of September. This gave rise to ruckus in the social media following which the CMRL apologized to the commuter. Such an incident should never get repeated. Hence, proper training is given to everyone and they are instructed on how various situations should be handled without making any compromise in security, say sources.
The armed TSP men will be in look out for such issues at the metro station. These guards will be used to prevent untoward incidents by providing proper commando training. This will be of help for giving protection to metro stations and passengers.
For frisking and anti-sabotage checks, private security guards are being engaged. Women guards will be checked by women passengers.
