Last Date for Validity of Handwritten Passports

The Regional Passport Office, Chennai has announced that the last date for the validity of handwritten passports will be November 24 after which these cannot be used to obtain visa.
 
In a report rolled out about this, the Regional Passport Officer, K. Balamurugan stated that the International Air Transport Association has fixed a deadline for getting all handwritten passports changed.
 
These handwritten passports will not be valid after the deadline and visa will not provided for such passports. Visa will be provided for applicants who hold passports that are machine readable i.e passports that are distributed after 2001.
 
Passports that were distributed between 1980 and 1990, and those given before 2001 will not be valid after this deadline. Hence, those who have such handwritten passport need to approach the passport office and apply for new passport.
