Google remains on toes when it comes to taking efforts for faster loading of web pages on mobile devices It has recently enabled pages for AMP in its mobile search results.

AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Page. This is an open source project that absorbs ideas from Facebook`s Instant Articles and makes use of it on the open web. Compared to normal pages, AMP enabled pages will get loaded 4 times faster. This will be of great help in loading pages where you have poor cell reception.

The WordPress has kept track of this and incorporated AMP. From today, any website that is built on WordPress will automatically support AMP. For the self-hosted WordPress, it is enough if a plugin is installed in addition.

The VIP customers of WordPress like TechCrunch, FiveThirtyEight, Quartz, etc can also initiate support to AMP. As of now, AMP is targeted mainly on news articles. When you surf the Google for news story, there will now be a carousel of AMP enabled stories. Very soon, TechnCrunch will extend its support for AMP.

If you already have a WordPress site enabled for AMP, you can add /amp/ to the end of URL. This will get you the optimized version. This is one of the examples. This will be a stripped-down version of the conventional type of posts.

There is nothing much for you to lose as AMP supports an array of features. For example, AMP has been associated with Outbrain, OpenX, AdSense, etc for creating optimized tags on handheld devices like mobile. You are still free to add tags in your AMP enabled device. At the same time, you can add analytics tools.

For Wordpress sites that are self hosted, many hooks are present in the code for optimizing the AMP template. The firm is presently continuing its processes of easier customizing interface for WordPress sites.
