Small diet tips for diabetics

Posted on: 03/Mar/2016 9:48:13 AM
Having diabetes does not necessarily mean that you have to eat tasteless food. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind for your diet. Following these should ensure a healthy, yet tasty meal.

First thing, eat foods that are high in fibre an slow in fat. Use artificial sweeteners in your beverages instead of refined sugar. However, do not have large quantities, and, if possible, avoid sweetness of any kind.

Avoid sugar sweetened beverages such as regular aerated drinks, energy drinks, sugar sweetened tea and coffee. If you are in the habit of drinking juice everyday, limit it to half a cup every day. Try to drink out along with your meal. Use fruits such as orange, grapefruit, apple, grape and cranberry to make your juice.

Avoid sweets that have a high concentration of sugar. This would include cookies, cakes and pies. Never skip a meal. Eat three different meals at the same time every day. Avoid alcohol. Cut back of your meal. For example, you could have half a cup of fruits instead of a full cup or one slice of bread instead of two.
