Central government: Tax proposal on EPF withdrawal cancelled

During the recent budget, there was a proposal to recover tax from the Provident Fund Interest.
There was a strong protest about this from all sectors including all the opposition parties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also recommended a through review of this proposal.
Following this, the central Finance Minister Mr. Arun Jaitley told in the parliament today (Tuesday, 8th March) that the proposal to introduce new tax on Provident Fund interest is withdrawn and is cancelled.The announcement regarding this is taken back.
