More power cuts await for Chennai and suburbs

Most Chennaiities will have to sweat it out for three hours more along with the existing one-hour power cut for the next 10 days.

TNEB has increased the duration of load shedding to four hours, if required, in many areas in Chennai city and suburbs for ten days starting June 21 so as to finish the ongoing thermal plant work at Vallur, near North Chennai as early as possible.

TANGEDCO, a subsidiary of the TNEB Limited, said that in order to take up the line connectivity to the new project, a TNEB-NTPC joint Thermal Plant that is being constructed at Vallur, shutdown of Nellore-Alamathi 400 KV line had to be availed from June 21 to June 30.

Due to this, there will be a shortage of about 300 MW of power to Chennai city and its suburban areas.

The load shedding schedule released by TANGEDCO is as follows:

Melur, Manali, Sipcot, Thiruthani, Palayaseevaram, Thiruvallur, Mosur, Pallur, Salai, Orikai and Oragadam (6am to 7am, 11am-12noon, 4 pm-5pm and 9pm-10pm);

Perungudi, Kadaperi, Kodambakkam, Thirumangalam, Porur, Puzhal, Mathur, Thirumullaivoyal and Durainallur (7am to 8 am, 12noon-1pm, 5 pm-6 pm and 10 pm-11 pm);

Rajbhavan, Thiruvanmiyur, Velachery, Madipakkam, Padi, Mugappair, Periyar nagar, Menambedu, Sidco, Anna Nagar, Avadi, Alamathi and Panchetti (8am to 9am, 1 pm-2 pm, 6 pm-7 pm and 11 pm-12 am)

Besant Nagar, Kottivakkam, Thiruvanmiyur, Thirumudivakkam, Arumbakkam, Maduravoyal, SAF games, Valluvar Kottam, Usman road, Tidel park, TCS, Nolambur, Sembarambakkam, KK Nagar, Ramapuram and SRMC (9 am to10 am, 2 pm-3 pm, 7 pm-8 pm and 12 am-1 pm)

and Alandur, Nanganallur, West Mambalam, Nanganallur, T.G.Nagar, Guindy, Pallavaram, Mambalam, RA Puram, Perumbakkam and Madambakkam (5 am to 6 am, 10 am-11 am, 3 pm-4 pm and 8 pm-9 pm).

TNEB has also requested consumers cooperate so as to enable the early commissioning of new power station at Vallur.
