Single window counselling for engineering admissions

Admissions to engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu through the single window counselling process will begin on June 30. 

Minister for higher education P Palaniappan announced today at an event organised at Anna University to generate random numbers for applicants having the same cut-off marks. 

3,457 applicants under the sports quota will go through the counselling process first on June 30, the counselling for 5,578 vocational candidates will be held from July 1 to 7.

The counselling process for 464 students under the differently-abled category will be held on July 7. 

Counselling for 1,42,775 applicants under the general academic category will be held from July 8. The rank list of the candidates will be published on June 24, and sports quota verification will be done on June 28 and 29.  

This year the number of applications sold has dropped from 1.78 lakh in 2010 to 1,63,509 this year. Anna University has received 1,48,353 applications this year.

This year 1,25,000 seats will be offered through the single window counselling system, which is an increase of 5,000 seats from last year. The number of engineering colleges has also gone up marginally from 491 last year to 494 in 2011.

While 51,462 seats in engineering colleges in the state went vacant in 2009, last year the number was 31,000.
