Phase-I of Chennai Metro Rail has two corridors, a 23.1-km stretch (Washermanpet to Airport) and another of 22 km (Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount).As of now the train from Alandur to Koyambedu covers a 10-km stretch which houses an inter-state bus terminus as well as a vegetable wholesale market is being operated.
At this juncture works between Alandur and airport a distance of 5.5 kms have been totally completed. The trail run was also successfully completed. Action is being taken to complete the track between Koyambedu and Egmore which is also supposed to be the people favourite by end of this year.
A metro rail official has mentioned: The trial run between Alandur and Little Mount has been completed. The metro rail coach was also operated in this stretch. Similarly the metro rail work between Alandur and Airport has been totally completed.

It is understood that the above works will also be completed in a couple of months. 90 percent of 36,308 meters of the tunneling works have been completed.
90 percent of railway stations works have also been completed. The trail run in people favourite stretch between Koyambedu and Egmore will take place during the month of June. This section will be operational by end of this year.
