DA for central government employees up by 6 percent

The central cabinet has approved 6 percent increase in DA (Dearness Allowance) for central government employees.

Generally, DA for central government employees is revised 2 times in a year.

A special calculation system was adopted for the revision in DA as recommended by the 6th Wages Committee.

The average Consumer Index Number is reckoned to be 6.73 percent between January to December, 2015. Based on this, it was expected that the an increase of 6 percent in DA for all central government employees.

In this scenario, there was a review meeting conducted today (Wednesday, 23rd March) by the central government cabinet regarding the revision of DA.

This meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. Approval was given for 6 percent increase in Dearness Allowance for central government employees.

So, the dearness allowance (clubbed with Basic Pay) ratio will increase from the current 119 percent to 125 percent.

This increase in DA will be effective from 1st January.
 
Around 48 Lakhs central government employees and teachers will benefit by this.

Further, 55 Lakhs pensioners (retired central government employees) will also benefit from this increase in DA.
