Posted on: 05/Apr/2016 6:25:04 PM
A recent study has said that low levels of vitamin D and bio available vitamin D can predict a persons risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure or death.  The study was conducted by researchers at the Intermountain Medical Centre Heart Institute. The results of the study were presented at the American College of Cardiology Scientific Sessions in Chicago.

4200 participants between the ages of 52 and 76 took part in the study. 25 percent of them were diabetic and 70 percent had coronary heart disease. The participants were tested for different types of vitamin D. Results showed that total vitamin D and bio available vitamin D were the most accurate in predicting cardiovascular issues.

Say the researchers, Our study found that low levels of both total vitamin D and bioavailable vitamin D appear to be associated with poor cardiovascular outcomes. This study is the first research that evaluates the association of vitamin D metabolites with cardiovascular events. And evaluating usable vitamin D could mean the difference on the amount of vitamin D prescribed, if its prescribed at all.
