The parliamentary Committee recommends the rail fares to be reduced as per the diesel prices

The oil corporations in India have practiced the routine of revising the petrol and diesel prices as per the prevailing international prices of crude oil.

There is a rule that the railway fares also must be revised as per the prevailing diesel prices. However, Indian Railways have not implemented this rule.

The parliamentary committee conducted an inquiry on this issue. It has raised the question with the diesel prices reducing to an appreciable level over the last 7 months, why the rail fares have not been reduced. At the same time, the rail fares have been revised upwards twice in this period.

The parliamentary committee has raised the question as to why rail fares had been revised upwards by 2 percent the 1st time and by 4.2 percent in the 2nd time.

The parliamentary committee has strongly recommended that at least now the rail fares should be reduced as per the falling diesel prices.
