Mumbai is the noisiest city in India

Mumbai has been reported as the city with the maximum number of violations relating to the safety mark of noise level during the period 2011 -14. Mumbai is followed by Lucknow, Hyderabad and New Delhi. The most common source of noise pollution is motor vehicles. Other sources are generator sets, office machines, aircraft, industrial and construction activities.
The data was released in a report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).In the report, the CPCB said that noise pollution can cause aggression, hypertension, hearing loss, tinnitus and sleep disturbance. Noise pollution is noise level beyond the prescribed limits of 55 dB during day and 45 dB during night.
The report says, Tinnitus can lead to forgetfulness, severe depression and at times panic attack. The report was compiled using real time monitoring data from 35 location in 7 cities - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Lucknow. The report will help policy makers set standards and formulate policy for controlling noise pollution.
