YouTube testing messaging feature

YouTube has been testing a messaging feature on the platform’s smartphone app. This feature will enable users to share and discuss videos without resorting to other ways to connect.
Announcing the feature on Friday, Youtube has given the option to only a small group of people. This group has the YouTube app installed on an iPhone or a device running on Google`s Android software. Depending on feedback from the group, the messaging feature will be included in a future app update that will be available for both iPhone and Android phone users.
YouTube hopes to encourage its users to spend more time in its app with this feature. Currently, when people want to share videos, they typically copy links to YouTube and paste them into text messages or other messaging apps such as Snapchat, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. By cutting off an external messaging service, YouTube can generate more opportunities to show ads to the more than 1 billion people who watch video on its service.
