Polling begins in the State

Tamil Nadu saw the beginning of polling in 232 constituencies in the State on Monday morning. The State has around 5.82 crore voters in its electoral roll.
Polling for two constituencies - Thanjavur and Aravakurichi - have been postponed to May 23. The decision was made after the Election Commission received complaints about money distribution by political parties to voters to select their candidates in the electoral process.
3776 candidates are competing for 234 seats in the State Assembly. Of the candidates, 320 are women. 1566 are independent candidates. Of the total candidates, 3728 will be voted for the 232 seats on Monday, excluding Thanjavur and Aravukurichi.
