14000 new ATM centres opened throughout the country

The nationalised banks have set up 14000 new ATM centres during the financial year 2015-16.

As on 31st March 2016, ending the financial year 2015-16, the nationalised banks have set up 13935 ATM centres. However, the nationalised banks had set up a target to install 15249 ATM centres.

With this, the total number of all ATM centres by public sector banks has increased to 142557.

The largest among the nationalised banks in the country, State Bank of India, had planned to set up 4200 ATMs during the last financial year. It had actually installed 4222 ATMs, thus exceeding the target. The total number of ATMs of SBI is now 49724.

Other banks including Canara Bank and Indian Bank have also exceeded their targets in setting up new ATMs. However, banks including Indian Union Bank and Punjab National Bank have failed to achieve the target.
