Houses in Ram Nagar get elevated

As a move to prevent rain water from entering houses, many house owners in Ram Nagar, Velachery are now in full swing works to raise their house up to a height of 8 feet.
One of the badly affected areas during recent Chennai floods in December is Ram Nagar. High raised buildings and apartments recently constructed in this locality were not affected during floods. However, individual houses present in low line areas and constructed ten years ago were badly affected and caused devastating effects.
At this juncture, house owners of house in low lying areas are being raised for up to 8 feet. These are done with the help of Jockey, a technology in building construction. These works are done with the help of building construction experts from Haryana.
Speaking about this, one of the house owners in Ram Nagar states that his house was constructed 13 years ago. Due to newly laid roads, my house has got lower in height.
It is not really simple to demolish the building and construct new one. The cost will go up to Rs 15 lakh to demolish and reconstruct the entire house. I should also get approval from the government and the work will consume six months.
To do the same job using Jockey technique, the total cost involved is just Rs 8 lakh. This doesn’t require obtaining approval from any government board. The job will get over in just 45 days. We will also have the satisfaction of continuing our stay in our own old home.
Saying about this, Gopi Kishan, a construction expert from Haryana said they charge Rs 225 per square feet to raise a house for up to 3 feet. For every additional feet of raise, we charge Rs 75 per square feet. We also guarantee to construct one more additional floor above the raised building. This raising can be done for up to 8 feet on the whole.
So far we have raised over 50 such buildings. Works are on the go to raise 10 buildings here. We have received patent for this technology from the central government.
