Why is it necessary to delete unused mail ids?

In spite of having fell off years ago, MySpace that has been yesteryear’s Facebook still has many users, in fact more than the US population. Now, the whole mass of account credentials is leaked in the web.

On Friday, there were over 360 million accounts on MySpace in a 33 gigabyte dump online, say reports on MySpace parent, Time Inc. All the passwords, mail ids and user names were leaked from MySpace all of which dates back to June 2013 well before redesigning of MySpace when a few security gaps were shut.

The affected passwords are now disabled so that the leaked credentials cannot be used anywhere or have unauthorized access to accounts.

There prevails uncertainty about the total number of users who are still active on MySpace i.e. the number of users who still make use of their credentials to log into the account. Most of these are unused for many years. By using the same user id and password for various online services, you indirectly make this reason vulnerable. It allows you to steal credentials and make use of them for others which gives access to complete digital life of a user.
