Test run of Metro Rail in the tunnel route between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar

All the activities of the project work in the tunnel track between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar have been completed.
It is expected that the dates for the test run on this section is likely to be announced soon.
The Chennai Metro Rail Project, 1st Phase, covers a distance of 45 km in 2 corridors.. The tunneling and track-laying work covering 8 km between Koyambedu and Egmore with air-conditioned Railway Stations is in progress.
Out of this, the project activities in the section between Koyambedu and Shenoy Nagar have been completed.
Because of the recent Legislative Assembly elections conducted in Tamil Nadu, the Metro Rail Officials were delaying the test run. Now, after the elections, test run is likely to be announced soon.
The Metro Rail officials informed that the test run with a rail engine in the section between Shenoy Nagar and Koyambedu. The next phase of testing will be with the Metro Rail. This will be started within a month.
After this, test runs will be conducted in the tunnel tracks for 6 months. The Railway Safety Commissioner’s team will visit and inspect the system. Once approval is given, the section will be inaugurated for the public service
