Anna Salai Metro Rail works to commence during the month of August

Now Chennai Metro Rail is considered as one of the important identity of Chennai city. Now the Metro Rail is successfully operated between Koyambedu and Alandur. Very soon trains will be extended up to airport. Trial runs have been conducted in this stretch and very soon commercial operations will commence. At this juncture Metro Rail officials have mentioned that the tunnelling works which was stopped in Anna Salai for the last few months will now begin during the month of August.
The tunneling work from May Day park to AG-DMS was handed over to Gammon India and Russian firm Mosmetrostroy. The cost of this work was Rs 1947 Crores. Citing that rocks were disrupting their works, these firms abandoned the work. They had nearly completed only 50 percent of the works.
Now Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded the contract to Afcons Infrastructure Limited which has already carried out tunnelling work in the other parts of the city. They have to complete the tunnelling work from Government Estate to AG-DMS in ten months. The contract is for about Rs. 350 crore. It has been decided to commence the work from the month of August.
