Flyovers and subways in the accident prone areas

Regional Transport officials will very soon identify the accident prone areas in Tamil Nadu very soon.
The vehicles are increasing day by day in Tamil Nadu. At the same time the accidents are also increasing. Last year 15,642 people died in road accidents. When compared to 2014, there is increase by 452.
Though there is negligence in part of the driver, there are deep curves in some roads. Other reasons attributed to the accidents are poor maintenance of roads and less quality roads.
Transport Minister M R Vijayabhaskar who recently took charge held a review meeting at Chepauk. Transport Commissioner Satyabrata Sahoo, deputy commissioners, assistant commissioners and 81 RTOs participated in this meeting. The Minister has ordered that immediate action should be taken to prevent road accidents.
One of the RTO officers while speaking to the media said: The Minister during the meeting has given us various orders and instructions. He said that there is no use in conducting awareness campaign during the first week of January. The awareness campaign should be held frequently near schools, colleges and public places. There should be no malpractices involved while certifying the vehicles. Fitness certificate should be issued to school vehicles only after complete and thorough inspection. RTOs should identify the accident prone zones in their jurisdiction. After this, a report will be submitted to the Minister. The Minister after going through the report will decide about the bridges, subways, removing the road curves, installing lights and caution boards. These works will be executed by Tamil Nadu Transportation and Highways Department.
