Non-functional lifts in MRTS

Posted on: 30/Jun/2016 5:59:25 PM
In the past few days, there have been complaints about non-functional lifts and escalators in a few stations on Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS).

We have taken precautionary measures for flooding of vaults in these elevators and escalators in Chintadripet and light house stations and thus these are turned off. Thirumayilai station commuters say that they are not even able to step into the lift on ground floor in the southern side of the platform. There are wooden sheets pinned at the entrance.

An escalator at the Taramani station was not functional and the commuters were tweeting about this to the railway officials. There were mechanical snags in a few places, and at Taramani, commuters sought help by pressing emergency button. Commuters were in first floor and stopped it at the ground floor, said officials. They added that the issue will soon be sorted out.

There are nuisance caused by commuters or people living in the neighborhood, and hence we have got no other idea than stopping the lift at Thirumayilai station, officials said. There are people who even defecate inside. We have taken a lot of measures to prevent this, but we are helpless and hence we have shut them down now, said officials. However, two lifts in the northern part of the station are functioning as usual, they pointed.
