On 29th of June 2015, Chennai city started enjoying metro services for the first time ever. Metro train between Koyambedu and Alandur was initiated on this day.

Now, metro construction works between Chennai Airport and Chinnamalai are completed in the first route. With this done, the metro service in this route will be initiated by this month end.

In a note about this, the metro officials state that metro stations including that in Chennai Airport, Meenambakkam, Nanganallur Road, Alandur, Guindy, and Chinnamalai lie along the route between Chennai Airport and Chinnamalai. The Commissioner of Safety, Sudharshan Nayak went on with his team to inspect this 9 km long route on 29th and 30th of last month. This involved inspecting the railway track for every half kilometer of their journey in the metro. They used advanced tools and equipment to perform these inspections. Upon completing his inspection, he stated that the works done are satisfactory.

He had also pointed a few flaws in the track, route map, buildings, signals, passenger safety, basic facilities, etc and insisted quick resolving for the same. Following this, all these mistakes were rectified in fifteen days.

Metro rail testing is taking place continually during day and night so as to ensure utmost safety of journey. The Commissioner of Railway Safety has also given his nod to initiate metro rail services in this route and has given out the necessary official certificates for the same. He has also forwarded a report to the Union Urban Development Ministry. Hence, once we receive approval from the central ad state governments, metro rail services is likely to begin by this month end.

Following this, test run between Alandur and St. Thomas Mount is taking place now. The Commissioner of Safety will then perform inspection in this route by September month and the services along this route will begin by October this year.

On the other hand, metro rail construction between Koyambedu and Thirumangalam, and Thirumangalam and Shenoy Nagar are wrapped up too, and test run is being carried out in full swing. Construction along Shenoy Nagar, Nehru Park and Egmore are being done at present and will probably get over by the end of this month. The Commissioner of Railway Safety will then carry out inspection in this route as well following which metro services will be initiated.
