No Wi-Fi at Chennai Metro Rail for time being

Last month it was mentioned that commuters will soon be able to browse while waiting for trains at metro stations as Chennai Metro Rail is planning to introduce free Wi-Fi at its stations.

Internet connectivity is essential for metro rail because it is hoping to attract car and two-wheeler users to public transport. Facilities such as Wi-Fi and clean stations are expected to boost metro rail`s image as a convenient and comfortable mode of transport.

But now an official of CMRL has mentioned: Talks have been on with private bidders for the past two years over installation of WiFi at all elevated and underground Metro Rail stations of Phase I, but no one is particularly interested in providing these services currently due to limited patronage for the Metro in the city.
