Chennai Metro Rail will be soon handing its operations to private players soon. The tender with regard to this has been floated.
In order to prevent the traffic congestion in Chennai, metro rail services for a distance of 43,4 kms have been planned. Works connected with this is going on. Currently metro rails are being operated between St Thomas Mount, Koyambedu, airport, Alandur and Little Mount. Currently 33 drivers are operating the metro rail for a distance of 19 kms daily.
At this juncture CMRL has floated an expression of interest to attract private companies with expertise in running trains. A private company willing to run trains will be expected to operate and safely run the train services for CMRL for a period of five years.
