The Republic of Armenia has opened its office in Chennai on 24th December, 2011.
Mr. Shivkumar Eashwaran, Director, Shivsu Group of Companies has been made the Honorary Consul of Armenia in Chennai. The Consulate is located at 149, Poonamallee High Road, Kilpauk, Chennai 600 010.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E.Ara Hakobaya, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in India, said Armenia and India has a relationship that goes back to over 2500 years.
The Armenian Church of Virgin Mary built in 1712, located on the Armenian Street in Chennai is 300 years old. It talks volumes about the involvement of Armenia in the development of Madras as Chennai was known then. The Armenian Constitution and the first Armenian magazine were started in Madras.
He further added that Education is one of Armenia’s strength, with the republic having quality medical and engineering colleges with over 1000 students from India, and around 300 from Tamil Nadu alone. This will be a major factor for promoting ties between Tamil Nadu and Armenia.
Mr. Shivkumar Eashwaran, Honorary Consul of Armenia in Chennai said that the opening of office in the city will facilitate trade, education and strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
