During the Governor’s address at the Tamil Nadu State Assembly, it was mentioned that the underground metro rail services will commence soon in Chennai. While speaking, the Governor said: Tamil Nadu government’s main purpose is to abolish huts in villages and cities. In order to attain this goal, the government started a free housing scheme for the poor in the year 2016-17. Efforts were made to build 1 lakhs 97 thousands and 619 houses in villages and 1 lakhs 35 thousands and 343 houses in the cities through Housing Board.
In the coming year new housing schemes will be introduced. Secondly the metro rail services in the underground path will be operational. Metro Rail Works in the Washermanpet – Tiruvottiyur Wimco Nagar is going on in rapid pace. A detailed project report (DPR) for Phase II of the Chennai Metro Rail has been submitted to the State government and is under consideration.
