To travel in Chennai Metro Rail one has to purchase ticket fare token. The token will be issued after you pay the cost for the required destination. You will be allowed to enter the railway station after you drop the token into the designated box. Like online reservations in bus and trains, a new system is being introduced in the metro rail.
Arundhati Bhattacharya, SBI chairman and managing director has launched this new system yesterday. The card given by the State Bank Of India can be used for metro rail travel. The card is linked to the bank account of the customer and by tapping the card at the entrance; he or she is allowed inside the station. On completion of the journey, the fare is deducted from the bank account when the card is used to exit the station.
Metro Rail Access Card allows customers to use it as a shopping debit or credit card. Customers should apply online for this facility. The annual fee for the card is Rs 499.
