Testing of the Chennai Metro Rail tunnel section Koyambedu-Nehru park soon

The Indian Railway Safety Commissioner is scheduled to conduct the testing of the Chennai Metro Rail Project underground section between Koyambedu and Nehru Park by the end of this month.

The Chennai Metro Rail Project officials explained that currently, Metro Rail is operating in the sections Airport-Little Mount and St. Thomas Mount-Koyambedu.

There has been a considerable growth in the number of passengers. It is planned that during the 2nd Phase, the section underground tunnel track between Koyambedu and Nehru Park covering a distance of 8 km has been completed.

Recently, testing was conducted on these tracks at the full speed of 80 km per hour.

A report regarding the safety features has already been submitted to the Southern Railway Safety Commission. The Railway Safety Commissioner has responded that he would conduct the testing of this section before the end of March.

So, it is expected that the underground section of the Chennai Metro Rail will become open for the public service.
