CMRL halts metro services between Koyambedu and Alandur

Posted on: 18/Apr/2017 12:44:08 PM
The metro rail department has cancelled all direct train services between Koyambedu and Chennai Airport through Alandur. It was in November 2016 that the service kick-started in trial basis, catering to popular demand.

A notice raised at the Koyambedu metro station reads about cancellation of services between Koyambedu and airport since 15th April, the reason being maintenance work. There is no clue about restoration of service.

There is not enough patronage for the service, and this may be the reason for halting, say staff at the station. The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has no comments in this regard.

Following the launch of 9-km line between Little Mount and Airport by the CMRL, the train service has been available for every once in an hour between Koyambedu and Airport encompassing 15 km distance at 40 minutes travel time.

In this journey, the trains switch corridors: Koyambedu to St. Thomas mount, and little mount to airport line through the Alandur metro station loop line. This Alandur metro is a large hub for elevated section to head towards airport. Passengers may take direct trains or swap corridors using escalators at Alandur with a single ticket.
