All activities of the Metro Rail Project between Koyambedu and Nehru Park are completed and it is ready for public service.
Test runs were conducted between Koyambedu-Thirumangalam, Shenoy Nagar, Pachaiyappas College, and Nehru Park.
Subsequently, safety inspections were carried out last week. The Metro Rail Safety Commissioner Manoharan conducted the safety tests.
He conducted safety tests on features covering passenger safety, exit arrangements in event of any accident or emergency, etc. He submitted a report at the end of safety inspection. He gave the approval that the public service between Koyambedu and Nehru Park may be started.
Following this approval, the first underground section of the Chennai Metro Rail is set to start. The Chennai Metro Rail Administration has now sought the permission of the state government of Tamil Nadu to commence public service in this section.
With the approval and the exact date being given by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E. Palanisamy and the central minister Venkaiah Naidu, the public service is planned to start.
So, the Chennai Metro rail authorities have informed that there are prospects that the underground services in the section Koyambedu - Nehru Park may commence in the next week.
