Intending to aid customers with last mile connectivity, there are going to be kiosks set up by private cab operators such as Uber or Ola at Chennai Metro Rail stations.
The CMRL officials state that the spots to set up these kiosks are identified at elevated as well as underground stations.
Most people merely use mobile apps for booking such taxi services. However, for senior citizens, we need some destination to book cabs without the help of mobile apps. We are in talks with the private cab operators and these kiosks are likely to be set up within a month, said an official from CMRL. He adds that there are plans to set up such kiosks at each of the station.
These facilities shall be installed at the underground stretches including Thirumangalam, Nehru Park, Shenoy Nagar, etc. In the elevated stretch, stations including CMBT, Vadapalani, Koyambedu, Ekkatuthangal, Ashok Nagar, Alandur, and Chennai Airport are likely to get these kiosks.
Based on the response shown by the commuters, we shall furthermore expand these stations, say officials.
Presently, 3 CMRL stretches are functional. This includes
- Elevated stretch between Koyambedu and Alandur
- Little Mount to Airport
- Underground stretch between Nehru Park and Thirumangalam
We are eyeing on installing private cab kiosk facility following the inauguration of underground stretch.
