Presently, the Chennai Metro Rail services operate in 2 segments – from Nehru Park to St. Thomas Mount and Little Mount to Airport.
The passengers travelling to the airport from the Nehru Park or Koyambedu areas have to alight at Alandur Metro station and have to take another train to go to the Chennai Airport.
The passengers with luggage are put to hardship because of this procedure. Also, the passengers proceeding to the airport need to wait for 15 minutes for the next train.
In the earlier stage, a loop-line facility was provided at Alandur station to enable the trains coming from Koyambedu route to proceed to the airport. Due to some technical snags, this loop-line facility was stopped.
Now, the Metro officials have decided to resume this loop-line facility.
The distance between Nehru Park and the Airport is 20 km. The ticket fare is Rs. 54.
The officials have decided to run the trains arriving from Koyambedu route to proceed up to the Airport and the other trains to operate, as usual, up to ST. Thomas Mount.
With this facility, it will take 40 minutes to reach the Airport from Nehru Park by taking the Metro Rail.
