A section of the underground tunnelling work for the Chennai Metro Rail Project in Anna Salai in the stretch between Little Mount and AG-DMS (Teynampet) for a distance of 4 km has been completed.
The Chennai Metro Rail authorities inspected this completed work. During this inspection, a thorough test was undertaken to check the proper strength of the track and also the safety devices such as the signal light. Following this, tests are being conducted in the section between Little Mount and Teynampet using a diesel engine on the tracks.
The Chennai Metro authorities have planned to test the section by running the Metro train Meanwhile, the construction of the Railway stations – Saidapet, Nandanam, Teynampet, and AG-DMS – has been completed. The final interior decoration work is in progress.
Once the Railway Safety Commissioner conducts the testing and gives approval that the track system is fit for operation, permission will be given to run the Metro trains for public service.
The authorities have ordered to expedite the completion of the construction of all the railway stations in this route before the above clearance.
As of now, the setting up of the escalators, ticket issuing counters in all the 4 railway stations are about to be completed.
Top priority is given for the provision and performance of the ventilation set-up for the waiting passengers and other safety-related aspects.
Currently, the activity of fixing the doors to be set up between the platform and the railway tracks in all the 4 railway stations – Saidapet, Nandanam, Teynampet, and AG-DMS.
All the balance activities are scheduled to be completed in advance of the Safety Commissioner visit for inspection. The facility to make the signal available for using cell phones will be taken up shortly.
The Chennai Metro officials shared their target that they will expedite the completion of the section between Saidapet and May Day Park over the distance of 7.3 km and their plans to commence operation of the Metro trains for public service.
