Substantial increase in rainfall in August across TN

Across districts, the groundwater table has seen substantial increase with the surplus rain showers across the state in August. There is significant increase in water level in Kanchipuram, Chennai, Theni, etc compared to earlier months.
 
More than half of the districts have shown increase in water level of which Kanchipuram has topped the list. The jump in water level here is 5.15 metres as compared to July, says the State Ground and Surface Water Resources Data Centre of the Water Resources Department. From all districts except that of Chennai, the centre has collected data of groundwater level. The monitoring authority for the city was the Chennai Metro water and it did it through hydro-geology wing.
 
Rain pour down
Excessive rain showers is recorded in Kanchipuram district. Overall rainfall in Tamil Nadu is 305.3 mm whereas the same has thus far been 217 mm for the same season. Districts such as Kanchipuram, Nilgiris, and Karaikal saw deficit rainfall out of the southwest monsoon.
 
WRD officials stated that the level of water in remaining districts that saw increase in the past one moth have also remained lesser than levels in August last year. For example, in Dindugal district, there may be increase in water level compared to earlier months. However, the water table continued to be of 12.23 metres that is lesser by 2 metres as compared to last year.
